They are saying that is because it was not done “within deadline” but the idea that there can be an actual deadline was thrown away in 1992 with the ratification of the 27th amendment which took over 202 years (closer to 203 years) to get enough support (ratified in 1992, the 27th was the amendment that prevents pay raises passed for members of Congress to begin during those voting member’s terms when the vote occurs, and YES, I DID correctly write YEARS).
I remember when all sorts of lies and lame excuses were being used to first fight the amendment, and now there is a new fight to have OVER HALF of the nation’s citizens have equal protection under the law.
Here is how basic the ERA is. IN FULL it reads:
Section 1: Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.
Section 2: The Congress shall have the power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.
Section 3: This amendment shall take effect two years after the date of ratification.
