None of my LPs were permanent. Nor my 8-tracks.

Members of the Tautology Society, let me introduce you to the members of Oxymoron International. Jumbo shrimp will be served with a bittersweet au jus. You may pick up your plastic silverware next to an original copy of the club’s bylaws.

… no? If I count something by drawing tally marks in the sand, I’ve created a record, but nobody would call it permanent.

On the timeline of our history and future, permanent and temporary are just relative terms … and often “wishful”.

In college, we were offered a “temporary Student Union” in the old Bookstore as the land was being cleared for its new modern version. 27 years later, that switch was completed.

Of course they aren’t the same thing. In Government, some records are legally kept perpetually; others are destroyed after ten years of so.

We were told about this in third grade. I wish it was true. It’d be a kick to see what they say about me from this stage in my life…

similar to the weather and other news people. "It (insert news item) happened back in 2019_. Or how about he cut it into two halves?

Also have to wonder if Google keeps a record of the numbers of people who look up terms or quotes while reading some comics. It’s a good thing to have that service and I appreciate it.

If you really DO anticipate delays, are they really delays?

    It’s a superfluous redundancy .

Of course, the folks in charge of the English language knew better than to court trouble by making another word that meant anything like tautology. That would be redundant.

Mallett doesn’t understand the definition of “tautology”. A tautology is a statement that must always be true, and therefore is essentially meaningless, for example “It is what it is.” The word Caulfield is looking for is “redundancy”. And as other commenters have pointed out, it’s not necessarily redundant either as there are such things as temporary records.

If someone has a record of crime(s), some or all can be expunged but a permanent one cannot.
