For some odd reason, today’s strip reminds me of the scene in Mr. Baseball when Jack finds out he’s beeing traded to a Japanese team:
Jack Eliot: I’m a World Series MVP!Skip: That was four years ago, Jack.Trey: You hit .235 Last season.Jack Eliot: LAST SEASON, I led this team in ninth-inning doubles in the month of August!
It also reminds me of an interesting bit I’d heard about Sadaharu Oh (Wang Chen-chih) which I really don’t know if it’s true: Oh was both the losingest manager and the winningest manager over the course of a career at one point. He had won more games than any other manager, but had also lost more.
This is why you have to know what the statistics are really based upon. Are they just raw numbers, percentages, or some other metric?
By the way, I was living near Tokyo when the movie Mr. Baseball came out.
Hmmm. A statement we could apply today. Facts cannot be altered by bluster, boasting, or rewriting history. Sorry. I am just so angry because so many will die because people lied, lied, and lied. I cry for my country.
Sounds like Festus (Gunsmoke) trying to explain about doctors doctorin’ other doctors … “Well now, when a doctor doctors another doctor, well, does a doctor that’s a doin’ the doctorin’ doctor the doctor that’s a gettin’ doctored the way that the doctor that’s a doin’ the doctorin’ wants to doctor the doctor that’s a gettin’ doctored or does the doctor that a gettin’ doctored tell the doctor that’s a doin’ the doctorin’ to doctor the doctor the way that the…”
That circuitous list of words can be very convincing at times. Though CB has fallen for that but then he is a fighter and will emerge. His team is going to play no matter what bow may Reruns happen.
The virus sure hasn’t slowed down people’s tribalism. The ability to find a way to make political comments on one of most non-political comic strips of all time is truly astonishing . This particular strip was originally published in spring of 1973. It’s good to practice social distancing but let’s try a little social media distancing too. It would nice to have some places to go with no political talk. Strips like Doonesbury are the exception.

Reminds me of the “So you think you’re a fierce mountan lion sitting on a rock waiting for a victim to come along?” strip

Sounds a lot like Trump talking about the media, or the truth, for that matter.

Even the most vigorous of denial of the Truth won’t change it. All it really does is put your ignorance on full display for all to see.

Maybe they wouldn’t lose all the time if they actually tried training or if they actually had a decent coach.
