FABULOUS!!! Don’t know why, but this reminds me of a Peanuts strip where Linus’s artwork is being critiqued by another character, who spends three or four frames “explaining” why Linus has neglected to draw hands on his characters. In the last panel, Linus looks at the audience, and says, “Actually I can’t draw hands.” For those of you why like “minimalist” art, try this website: xkcd.com.
I always think of the twin beds hanging in MOMA "by Robert Rauschenberg. Just beds with stupid writing in the pillowcases. Too bad his Momma didn’t slap him silly for ruining her linens before he got away with his junk. “POP ART” artists sure put one over on the fools in the art world.
I was in a big city modern art museum. Their top piece at the time was a 6’ X 8’ solid black canvas with a 11’ red circle in the middle. That’s it. How is that of any value? I usually figure art shows some talent at creating imagery, or evokes an emotion intended by the artist. I could have made the same thing – so the talent component was entirely missing. The only emotion evoked was stupidity – I thought the gallery was stupid for thinking that piece of junk had any value, and I was stupid for being suckered in and paying admission fee to see it.
Speaking of art being in the eye of the beholder -Years ago (about 1960) I attended an art fair in a hotel lobby. One of the pieces of ‘art’ on display was a mat-board fruit shipping separator. It was mounted in a ‘display case’ type frame with the curves facing out, and was titled “Purple Bras”. It sold at the listed price:
Some “authority” said “less is more !”/ But to view this exhibit’s a chore/ The exhibit is fraught/ with depictions of naught./ It’s too easy to simply ignore.

They cater to their audience.
Except for the price, of course.

I wonder if a minimalist starts out that way or if they just get exhausted doing maximalist works and say what the hell.

Saw a Japanese minimalist painting of a flock of birds … part of one wing at the edge of the canvas.

So we got just a wee bit lazy with our details today, Mr. Miller? Your efforts, or lack thereof, are duly noted. (very funny, though….)
