Of course, the weather doesn’t give a rip what your calendar says. That’s why scientists distinguish between astronomical seasons and meteorological seasons.
What I don’t get is why, at least in the last century or so, the calendar was not rationalised with 30 days for all months, with the extra being distributed to every third one?! The Leap Day could still be added to February every 4 years!!
Can’t change the calendar, but I’m for permanent daylight savings time. Would be just one less frustration to deal with and meaningful to more than a handful of people.
12 months of 30 days each and a Midyear Day and a 4 of 5 day end of year holiday. But since Big Julie and Pope Greg fiddled with the calendars we have grown accustomed to the “reforms” and are stuck with them. Cool Story: George Washington was born on 11 February 1731 because the UK had not adopted the Gregorian Reforms until 1750. Contemporaneous records used the Old Style Julian calendar and the Annunciation Style of enumerating years, recording his birth as February 11, 1731. The British Calendar (New Style) Act 1750 implemented in 1752 altered the official British dating method to the Gregorian calendar with the start of the year on January 1 (it had been March 25). These changes resulted in dates being moved forward 11 days, and an advance of one year for those between January 1 and March 25. He changed his birthday after the adoption.
Strange departure from their usually intelligent conversations where they now don’t realize that seasonal weather is not tied in any way to dates on the calendar.
Count me among those who like an extra day of winter. It’d be nice if some year it lasted through the end of February, or maybe even started back in November or December where it belongs, instead of us getting less than 8 weeks worth before we get to spring and awful summer.

I can’t agree more. Winter always seem to overstay their welcome as it is.

Whoever put it in February was probably a snowbird visiting Florida. One extra day before going back.

It’s In Feb because that used to be the last month of the year.

I doubt many people in the Southern Hemisphere are complaining!

Do the people that complain about leap year in February also believe that daylight saving time changes the length of a day?

Frazz isn’t going the tell Caulfield that leap year makes absolutely no difference in whether or not it gets warmer?
In the Julian Calendar now, the vernal equinox is April 3rd.

I wonder if Mallett realizes it’s summer in the Southern Hemisphere. Maybe they like having an extra day at the end of their summer.

I like winter. You can’t ski without snow and we need winter to bring snow.

Jef Mallett’s Blog Post Frazz 17 hrs · On the other hand, they put it on a weekend. You could screw up a lot worse than that.
