“The cyber-sword of destiny contains energy in a quantum well of 35eV height, and can be most easily modeled as a well that is elliptical in cross-section and rectangular in length. So the component along the blade of the sword is reducible to one-dimensional square well as discussed in chapter 5, but Bessel Functions aren’t quite correct for the cross-section…”
I am assuming that work Sluggo is listening to is some sort of “fantasy genre” work. While “fantasy genre” works are NOT to my liking as the seem to inevitably use so very much hocus-pocus, mumbo-jumbo that I personally find them dull as dust…. I do not see any reason for Sluggo to hide this…. it is a valid (though IMO blah) form of literature.
I’m 58, male, teach science and agriculture and I read whatever books I want without worrying about what others think. Some of the books for little kids are pretty good. Some of the romance books aren’t bad, I just enjoy reading. ;)
book plug: “How to Explain Quantum Physics to Your Dog” and “How to Explain Relativity to Your Dog”, make unintuitive subjects in physics easier to understand, and in an entertaining manner. There’s not an audio version of the first one, but the audio version of Relativity was released just a few weeks ago. Also, if library doesn’t have the quantum physics books / audio or the cybersword and src-ery books / audio you want, you can suggest them. I suggested a book, expecting it to be put on a list and maybe they’d get it within a year, and they actually ordered it within a week. So the minute or two it takes you to fill out the form is worth the try.
Audiobooks help pass the time on two-day drives. Radio adaptations are useful for this as well (the BBC’s “I, Claudius” from the 80s is particularly good).

Ebooks work really well for this, too – am I reading Dostoevsky or Danielle Steele? You’ll never know.

Sluggo’s ingenuity parallels Nancy’s ingenuity. They were made for each other.

Quantum physics is actually more fantastical that most fantasy books.

Sluggo is split lit.

I do not think that a book on tape would get you the full experience.

Sluggo is getting to be too much like Nancy, he is in danger of losing his litness.

If Sluggo gets any smarter, he may get lit and split an atom….
