The Joint Committee of Front-Porch Wisdom and Old Wives’ Tales frown at your shenanigans, E.B.

I’ve always wondered where are those colloquialisms originated…….now I know.
When my son was about 7 or 8 he was challenged by an adult for saying “they say”. She, condescendingly: “who’s ‘they’? “ He : “The ubiquitous they”. Rimshot! He’s now in his 40s and I still remind him of it every now and then.
I suppose tomorrow it will be the “4 out of 5 dentists” who recommend products. :)
Oh, God, it’s the Proverbials!
I’m almost certain the penny saved thing is Benjamin Franklin, but I’m pretty sure all of those expressions come from various sources.
Frequently quoted by our President.
And “They” are in your head.
Only our Monty would keep a cast full of extras on hand just to humor the little E.B. robot!
