Is there any place around them that is open that they can go to for a going-out date?

Remember when COVID-19 didn’t narrow the choices down so much?

Going out date is now eating a meal outside as opposed to eating in the dining room.

Janis, you’re going to have to wait for at least 2 weeks or more. Until the C/V passes. Maybe order takeout or delivery. Even then We’re waiting it out.

Hey Arlo, take her to Chez Day. It’ll be like going out and staying in at the same time.

May depend on where you live but I can still go to the park and walk the trails. So, pack a picnic or light lunch Janis. Strolling hand in hand should spark a few memories.

Arlo, today’s Michigan’s going-out date would be takeout and and a park’s picnic bench under the stars.

With all of the restaurant closings, I think we had our last out-date for a while on Monday night.

Folks, in the short term the only way we’re going to beat this thing is to stay at home as much as possible . It may be that Janis is practicing that, and laments the days when they had a going-out date.

My favorite “going out date” place was on the river during canoe trips. Magic moments on a quiet gravel bar in the evening.

They could get dressed up, go to a nice restaurant which is still open, place their order and talk until it’s ready, pick it up at the door and go home to eat. There really are people sitting in cars while their orders are ready. I prefer to skip all the waiting and place an order at home so it’s ready to pick up if we eat “out” right now. Haven’t splurged like that much though.

The inability to go out is a sad sign of the times. Besides Arlo & Janis are “Boomers” We have been told to shelter in place as we are too vulnerable to be outside in a crowd

Obviously, there was a lag time between when this was drawn and today, when it appears. However, I work on a very short time line; I’m embarrassed to say HOW short. It’s interesting and scary how quickly things changed.

Get into your swim suits, go to the kitchen, put some sandwiches and a bottle of wine in a picnic basket, pick out a ‘destination’ and enjoy yourselves on a fine sunset evening…..

We have been going out almost every Saturday night since our first date in 1973 for dinner and movie – sometimes even on other nights. Only reason we do not go is the rare no movie we want to see, one of us is not well, or too much snow – and now, theater closed for awhile. Last weekend theater (an independent) was open they sent out an email that they were extending the time between showings to sanitize the theaters between shoes – especially seats and arm rest, and clean the bathrooms and food counters. Though we go to the “late showing” (at this theater this means a movie starting between 9:30 & 10:30) and generally wear the only ones in a theater (or there are one or two other couples) we decided not to go for health reasons – both being seniors and having multiple medical conditions.
