Oh my – today, Tommy is not just his normal floofy self, he is poofed!!! As for Sophie, I think she will eye the purple banana thoughfully, and then turn it into some of her found object art.
And now, the conclusion of “Meanwhile Back on the Nile”
Agnes-Ata: Your Majesty, Queen Mags sends her sincere thanks, and wishes to present you with a gift of trash from their finest dumpsters.
Queen Catshepsut the Golden: I will send her a message of thanks. Always did love her bling. Sophititi, I assign you to create fine bling from this wonderful trash.
Sophititi: It will be my pleasure, your majesty. And I understand there’s going to be a wedding in the near future?
The Queen: So says our ancient soothsayer, and what she says, goes!
Lupinium: Iron Glove is working on the wedding bells, Sophititi. What can you add to that?
Sophititi: I’ll think of something. And it will be wonderful.
The Queen: So be it. And now, I understand a banquet has been prepared. Thommios, bring us our meal.
Thommios: Uh, there has been a problem. There was a fire in the meat store room. Burt-Ra has put it out, but I fear some of the meat has been a long time in the smoke.
The Queen: No matter. Waste not, want not. Bring on the feast!
Puckmosis: (Bea, did you make sure of the koffee?)
Beatrixia: (Yes, Lupinium has his decatf).
The Queen: The meat is delicious. What do you call it, Royal Chef?
Thommios: Oh, uh, hmm….
The Queen: So be it. We will call this delectable dish….HAM!
Stay tuned for further adventures of our cats’ ancestors. See ya real soon.
Let me get this straight. She got rid of the CATS’ couch for a purple banana? Worst human ever!
I recommend a Pawley’s Island hammock which has wood bars on each end so you don’t end up in a cocoon. My brother could share his with his golden retriever. Plus, you can get a freestanding frame so you don’t need trees or walls to attach it.
I shared this story and some photos on my Twitter in February, and thought I would talk about the hammock today here too. In real life, Sophie was declawed by her original owners before she came to live with Tommy and his Woman. It has given her a lot of difficulties and pains, including little bone spurs (ouch!) and she would express this pain in the early days by peeing on soft furniture.
(Possibly expressing pain, marking territory out of fear from pain—while the reason can’t be fully known, this problem develops sometimes with cats who have been declawed. Tommy’s Woman works in rescue and had seen this happen with other declawed cats. She was prepared when she adopted her that Sophie might understandably struggle with this painful condition.)
When this began happening, Tommy’s Woman put her giant purple couch into storage—and replaced it with a GORGEOUS wall to wall purple hammock. Here are some photos of the Boy swinging the Girl in it during a visit to Tommy and Sophie’s this summer.
I have laid in this hammock, it is like swinging on a dream.
She keeps it by a set of windows to lay and rest and watch a local groundhog she’s grown fond of go about his daily business in her and the neighbor’s yard. (He has not been seen yet this year! Please join us in our hopes that he will return!)
And so, while I have often drawn a Big Purple Couch for Tommy’s home in the comic, in real life Tommy’s Woman has this gorgeous, incredibly cool hammock set up, and she lays in it with soft pillows and big fuzzy blankets.
Sophie is lucky to have a person who understands cats the way Tommy’s Woman does, who would happily toss the couch for a hammock.
Every cat should be so lucky, but especially cats who have had something painful happen to them. Poor Sophie had a few things occur in her life that made her road a little harder and rockier than other cats.
I have really enjoyed the draw along and the "practice"streams that Georgia has been doing. Here is a link to the instagram post where some of the draw along participants have shared their work and it is so good.https://www.instagram.com/p/B_IxOq5pbmY/
Maybe the Woman should pay attention to why the Boy, with paint brush in hand, is calling for her? Hint: check his little sister’s face in the penultimate panel. (He’s so proud of his artwork!)

Is the boy using a paintbrush as a microphone? Does that mean he knows that the cats are reports and he wants to be part of the team?

Careful Tommy. Treat the purple banana gently and it will be nice to you and not dump you on the floor.

That is sooooo like a child/cat to have ‘questions’ when the mom is on the phone or in the bathroom or has her hands full, etc.

Sophia, Tommy Bee, oh she wanna hold thee
In a purple ’nana, come on pretty mow-mows
Comfy, relaxy, tho’ the hammock’s a little wiggly, she won’t shake ya
Off the front hallway, there’s a place like Kokomo
It’s where she wants to go to get away from it all
Cat bodies in her hands, swayin’ together cuz life can be grand
She’ll be falling asleep to the rhythm of a steel drum band
Just like in Kokomo

Cat-sized hammocks are apparently very comfortable (for cats). Lacking that specialty item, my cats use “director’s chairs” with the arms folded down.
