I’ve been reading Pickles since our paper picked it up in the early 90’s. Even as a high-schooler, who didn’t think too much about old folks otherwise, I loved Crane’s gentle and witty humor. The abstract self-deprecation is funny, but misplaced. Pickles has always been a very well-done strip.
Man goes to see a psychologist. “Doc, I am so miserable. I’m a great star, but I’m such a fraud. I’ve got no talent. I can’t act. I can’t sing. What do I do?” The psychologist says,“Why don’t you quit?” The man is aghast, “What? And give up show business?”
Brian Crane, You can not quit. It is as though you are looking in our windows. With the first sip of hot chocolate, you become the smile that starts the day. Please tell us if you are retiring you have someone in training. They will never be as good but maybe they can look in YOUR windows as you have done to mine for inspiration! Your devoted fan

Fortunately I made enough to retire early before I realized that I was lousy at what I was doing.

Don’t worry Leon, there are quite a few out there who are just as successful and don’t have any talent whatsoever!

I’m a big fan … everything I learned about being a grandfather I learned from Earl. His humor and approach to things are scarily close to mine.

Earl is sort of jealous of his brother….and Brian is being sarcastic….

This cartoon tends to stay fresh, unlike 2 others that went way too long. Feel free to guess.

A real problem. On the other hand, many have talent but lack the other qualities required for success. What you lack in talent, make up in work ethic.
