One is a result of evolution and the other is the result of imagination. Creatures of the imagination can look any way the person creating them envisions. Creatures of evolution are bound by the laws of chance and survival. Chance that a mutation will prove advantageous and improve an animal’s odds of survival and reproduction. It can still produce some very odd looking critters that look like they were planned by a committee, like the platypus, or the giraffe. That teacher lost an opportunity to make learning about science interesting.
