Good ol’ quality sister time. (It wasn’t easy for me to carefully walk my nephew in those front-backs when my father and I visited my older brother’s family in New Jersey last summer where we made made day trips to Middlesex County College, Menlo Park, Philadelphia, and New York City.)
I “SO” get where Elizabeth is coming from. I have a little sister who is 14 years younger than me, and events like Christmas and Easter became fun and magical for me again,
It seems like the guide gets more pleasure than the guided sometimes. I seem to remember going to a zoo with my parents when I was very young. I know I was supposed to be interested in the animals behind the bars and glass but I was fascinated by the gum and cigarette butts on the ground. The stuff I could get to was more interesting than the stuff I could only look at.
the best part about being a grandparent is you get to experience your grandchildren first experiences in life which you didn’t have time for with your own children because you had to support them
I can attest to that! When my first born was about 2 years old, We had been on a trip to the store and when we got back home, I picked him up out of the child seat in the car and as I did that he looked up into the night sky and saw stars. “What’s that?” he exclaimed as he pointed to the sky and saw the full moon for the first time in his life. The look on his face was one of delight, and it reminded not to take for granted the wonders of nature. My son is still an avid amateur astronomer to this day. Next August he will be 52 years old.
I grew up in very near proximity to Disneyland in the 50’s and 60’s. As I got to be an adult, going to visit the park was a lot more fun with a small child who had never been there before. The wonder in their eyes was so much fun to watch. Even standing in my folks’ front yard to watch the fireworks in the summertime was more fun with “newbies”.

This is one of the most charming strips I’ve read in all of GoComics in quite a while…thank you, Ms. Johnston!

My dachshund puppies gave me a new perspective on the bushes in the backyard, that there was more space under them than I had been aware of.
