While sheltering in place, it might be a good time to give up smoking (if you haven’t already). I wonder how many of the not-so-old people who die from COVID-19 are smokers.
Tobacco sales may have decreased in the US, but the tobacco companies simply re-targeted their sales strategy into Asia. Now the problem is dealing with vaping. It was initially marketed as safer than smoking, but studies have shown the concentrated nicotine is much worse.
I quit right after my heart attack. I was 45, now I’m 67. For whatever reason, I never once had the desire for a smoke since that day…but I chew a lot of gum, specially when I’m hiking.
I just read a story this morning about covid19 targeting men more than women. Part of the reason, they think, is that women have two Y chromosomes to men’s one, but also that in most third world countries men smokers outnumber women hugely.

Just 50 million? That’s an underestimate by a factor of about 20!

Yes, I am glad I quit four years ago…….but in the last month there have been times when I really missed my ten minute adjournments from reality.

I don’t even know how the average Joe can even afford to smoke. I suppose other states are different, but a pack in California costs around $8.00.

I watched a guy buy 3 packs in a Walgreen’s, yesterday. Then he put his anti-virus mask back on…

I seem to recall some luminary saying “smoking is for the poor and the stupid”. Anyone remember that one ?
