I don’t thing that roaches open creaking doors. We need more light, now! long hallway door after door and someone/thing is shining a light at them. It looks like there are crabs on the wall and floor near the source of the light.
I had to copy the image and maximize exposure to see that we are looking up in panel 3, seeing Wally’s light from below. And the other 3 are seen as shadows.
Umm, no, not roaches, unless they are big enough to open the door. Now the dittoes could make something that would sound like that, but I imagine they are with Wally.
But my thought was the sound of all those scarab beetles from The Mummy (1999 Brendan Fraser version).
Maybe I am wrong, but the way the tk tk tk … is shaded, I get the feeling that whatever is walking is not coming up the stairs towards our heroes, it is traversing the room at the bottom. So maybe it has a different goal in mind, perhaps a room at the bottom where it has something it is seeking or has a desire to do.
^The shading indicates that the noise is decreasing, because Wally’s light has gotten the whateveritis’s attention and it has stopped moving. Duffy’s remark about roaches would seem almost appropriate because roaches do scatter when a light is turned on However, the sound is not consistent with a scattering, which should have the tks coming closer together.

Okay, now I’m creeped out, wondering what might be moving around in the dark. Probably a what, maybe a who. And possibly more than one. ::shiver::
