National Caramel Popcorn Day. Great – now I feel an overwhelming desire for some really good caramel corn.
National Student-Athlete Day
National Tartan Day
National Teflon Day
National Sorry Charlie Day. This one intrigued me, so I had to look it up to see if it had something to do with Charlie Tuna from the old TV commercials. It actually does. It refers to accepting and dealing with rejection, just as Charlie Tuna always did. He was always trying to get StarKist to choose him (Heaven only knows why he would want to become canned tuna), but as his buddy always told him “StarKist doesn’t want tuna with good taste. StarKist wants tuna that tastes good!” Anyway, here is part of what it said about Sorry Charlie Day;
“National Sorry Charlie Day on April 6th each year encourages us to view rejection from a different perspective. It’s a day to think about the times we have been rejected. Whether we’ve been rejected by a sweetheart or a college, a prospective employer or the bank for a loan, we’ve all been refused. The day also gives us an opportunity to reflect on how we survived the rejection and what we learned from it.
Dismissal from a job should always be looked at as an opportunity. While it may be hard to see it that way, sometimes it’s the shove we’ve been waiting for. Even though others may take the leap on their own, many are stuck in jobs dreaming of a different career. It just takes downsizing, layoffs or outright firing for someone to see the light.
Do you remember Charlie the Tuna? He was often rejected but would keep going with a smile. “Sorry, Charlie” became closely associated with StarKist and was also a successful American catchphrase. Charlie never let rejection stop him. Do not let it stop you!"
I read in this morning’s paper that Ohio was closing it’s borders to out-of-staters. Since I have a prescription waiting for me across the river in Belpre OH at the Krogers Pharmacy, I put my mask and gloves on and drove across the bridge at 9 am amongst steady traffic (no blocking cop cars). Other than the fact that breathing through a mask while wearing glasses causes fogging up problems, it was a successful trip. I saw paper towels and toilet paper and lots of eggs.
The US Surgeon General says this week and next week will likely be the worst weeks of the crisis. So please stay indoors and be careful if you must go outside. And thank those who have to go to work.
Well, well, looks like Chesney is in love! Of course, whether that love is reciprocated by Mimeux remains to be seen. On another note, saw a robin, some juncos, and a butterfly while out walking today.
I was sitting in the parking lot at my vet’s office today (no pet parents allowed inside) (curb pick up and take your pet inside service and return to back seat after treatment). There was a couple of flirting Mockingbirds keeping me entertained, and a Blue Jay chased them out of the bushes so he could have some seeds too.
