Dennis DeYoung, of course, wrote Mr. Roboto and performed it in the band, Styx. He also designed the costume and the performance. After the band broke up with DeYoung, they avoided playing the song for 35 years until they finally relented in 2018.
Styx guitarist James “J.Y.” Young says the reason the band revived its 1983 hit song “Mr. Roboto” after so many years is simple: the fans kept asking for it. … The song is controversial in the world of Styx because it represented a significant departure from the band’s earlier hard rock sound. — IHeartRADIO
Anyone get the feeling DeYoung is a fan of the strip and contacted Misters Stanton and Curtis about a cameo? The Usual Suspects on the comment board with more inside knowledge here don’t seem to suggest that so far.
I didn’t get to comment on yesterday’s strip for most of yesterday, but I’d like to reiterate my late comment yesterday that Lt. Reimer’s panel was not at all political.
It was written long before Trump’s musings about disinfectant and was already distributed to newspapers more that a week before the President made his remarks that caused a recent controversy. Lt. Reimer could not possibly have known that Trump’s remark was coming and even if they had wanted to change it at the last minute, it was too late.
Newspapers (and this site, for that matter) get the strips about three weeks before the publication date. They are written at least a week before that, usually more I would think, especially the Sundays, because they have to be drawn and inked and then coloured before being sent to the syndicate.
Various quack cures have been circulating on social media and there are probably some similar to this 2014 post about curing Ebola with bleach: https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/bleacher-bums/
Dennis Deyoung should be flattered by this depiction. He has managed to stay wonderfully thin in real life but the nightly Ponds Cold Cream application has failed. Maybe because he is so thin. There’s always a trade off in life. Sigh. But before I give him too much credit, maybe the Snow he wrote about in Snowblind helps him maintain his weight. The trade off there would be $$$
1-STATON’S MAN CRUSH: RAP RAP RAP. (Hmmm, that gives me an idea for a style change in the music I write…)
2-HANDLES: I DON’T WANT ANY. MAN CRUSH: I was the one in the audience when you did that one-and-done performance of Metropolis and I was wondering…
3-HANDLES: You’re FOOLING YOURSELF if you think I’m gonna SAIL AWAY with you MR. ROBOTO. And if you don’t leave this second, you’re living on BORROWED TIME.
MAN CRUSH: Oh BABE. DON’T LET IT END like this.
HANDLES: I think it’s HIGH TIME you left. So BEAT IT! Oh. Wait. Nevermind that one…
No wonder Mysta has been kidnapped so often lately. DeYoung was able to avoid all of Diet Smith’s crack security team, waltz right in to Smith’s top-secret compound, instinctively know where Mysta’s apartment was located, walk right in and knock on the door. Now what could his business be with Mysta except as another pointless crossover which interrupts the main story.
Panel 1: Usually front door hinges are on the inside of the apartment or house to keep intruders from removing the hinge pin and removing the door. Lt. Reimer should write a Crimestopper’s Textbook about the foolish and dangerous construction practice of putting doors in backwards. It’s a Tracyville scandal!
You’d think that someone, somewhere along the line would have told her what the real name was of the guy who kidnapped her. You know, just kind of mentioned it. At the trial, in the newspaper, somewhere.
Off topic topic: I’m back!!! I want to thank my buds on here who have been supportive to me recently. I appreciate you all very much and have missed you. There are many great people on these boards and I am honored to be among you. Now, let’s enjoy some Dick Tracy fellow Mystas and Robotos.
Sweet petite Mysta Chimera, ready to electrify Mr. Roboto! She looks really nice in panel 2 but by panel 3 is ready to defend herself.
And that’s okay. Not being a Styx fan myself, the name Dennis DeYoung would mean as much to me as it it does to Mysta, Why is he intruding into this already burgeoning storyline anyway?

After being kidnapped twice recently, you’d think she would be a little more reticent to open her door to strangers.

I’m certainly glad to see Mysta being dressed more realistically than she had been. Good work, Team Tracy! It makes her a more real character now.
