National Bubble Tea Day. I never heard of Bubble tea, but I don’t drink tea anyway, so I guess I’ll pass on this one.
National Hairstylist Appreciation Day.I know people would appreciate them more if the salons would open up again.
National Poem In Your Pocket Day. I’m confused about this one because it said before that April 23 was Poem in Your Pocket Day.
National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day. Despite having 2 cats die on me this year, I can’t really take in more right now. But the shelter is a great place to find a pet.
National Honesty Day. In all honesty, I think this should be every day.
National Bugs Bunny Day. This commemorates the date the famous bunny first appeared in a short film in 1938.
National Raisin Day. I love raisins and I even have some in my kitchen.
National Oatmeal Cookie Day. I like my oatmeal cookies with chocolate chips and raisins.
National Military Brats Day
National PrepareAthon Day. National PrepareAthon! Day on April 30th reminds us that crises happen suddenly. Being prepared needs to happen now, not later.Natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods or wildfires require us to make decisions with little or no warning.
National Sarcoidosis Day. National Sarcoidosis Day on April 30th annually raises awareness about a non-contagious immune system disease. While most commonly found in the lungs, Sarcoidosis is an inflammatory disease that can affect any part of the body, inside or out.
When it attacks the skin, it typically looks like a scaly rash or red bumps. Often, people don’t realize they have it and blame it on allergies or a simple reaction to something with which they came into contact. Sarcoidosis can affect muscles, bones, kidneys, eyes, liver, the heart or any other part of the body. When it affects the eyes, the usual symptoms are sore eyes. When internal organs or muscles are affected it can cause swelling and pain. In the lungs, it can cause a dry cough, shortness of breath, and mild chest pain.
I tried bubble tea once. The first few sips were okay but then swallowing a big gob of tapioca started to gag me. Oh well I’ll try (most) anything once.
It’s always nice to be appreciated and I got some of that yesterday. A customer called the store to ask about some flower vases she had seen in the store once. She was an older lady (she said so herself) so she didn’t want to come in the store to look for herself, but if we still had the vases, she was going to ask her granddaughter to get her one of them. Well, the service desk sent the call to the wrong department. Vases are in crafts & fabrics, not in the garden center. But I told her I would go and look for the vases. She told me I really didn’t need to, since it’s a fair distance from garden center, but I told her it was no trouble. I found the vases and told her what I found. She was so pleased that I took the time to help her that she called the store back to let the manager on duty know how I had helped her. I love it when customers not only thank me for helping them, but they let managers know how I helped.
I read the plight of the clammers on Martha’s Vineyard that are ready to harvest their farmed clams now at the optimal size, but sadly have no market to sell them since all the restaurants are closed. I saw in the supermarket that the monger had domestic clams at a really low price per pound. I watch a lot of cooking shows [Lidia, Julia, Emeril, and others] so I thought this could be a fun dinner and bought a 2 pound bag of a dozen [at home I saw that they were from Maine]. We got out the pots and pans and boiled them in a garlic, onion, white wine, clam juice, and olive oil sauce until they all opened. Then dumped in a pound of cooked linguine as suggested on the hang tag of the clams bag.
Roommate and I both thoroughly enjoyed the meal, but it was a big production with the cleanup and dealing with the shells etc. So I expect the next time that I have clams it will be in a restaurant, let them do all the work, it will be worth it.
I’m splurging (for now) on top quality organic produce boxes delivered twice a month. The driver, who I would expect be thankful he has a job these days, is the most unfriendly I have ever encountered. No smile, no greeting, just a scowl and a grunt. Perhaps he feels overqualified, but I have friends and neighbors who would be happy to take his place.
One of the massive, privately owned strawberry farms near by had to close down because of workers getting sick. Rotting strawberries, no profit, and all the government money going to farms owned by conglomerates. Not a good thing. Plus, no strawberries! State meat producers like Smithfield are also closing for the same reason. All the truckers in world won’t help if there’s no product to ship.
Last day of April and I found myself putting on damp clothes directly from the washing machine in an attempt to stay cool for a short time while I finish outdoor chores. Just a few weeks ago it was flannel sheets and a heated blanket.
I like that the cartoon had Toilet Paper on the truck panel and when you clicked on the cartoon it says Produce. Also Mr. Hollingsworth is blowing the horn, fun times.
Kudos to all those brave delivery people for providing us with food during these troubling times! On another note, saw a rabbit and some robins while out walking today.
I went out at 8:05 (central time) tonight to try to see the satellites in the north west sky. The sky was still so light from sunset that I did not see any of the 40 lights in the sky. However, I did see two bats flying around my yard light and was glad to see them…eating mosquitoes and Mayflies.
Oh, I forgot…at 4 pm when I was still potting up annuals, I walked up and down the deck several times, gathering what I needed. On my last trip for a trowel, I realized there was a huge Rat snake on the bird feeder. What did it think would happen….a bird would land in its mouth???

The golf course is opening on Friday, and it was so peaceful around here.
Mr. & Mrs. Goose and the babies were out today as was an Egret trolling the edges of the lake.Only good thing is we have highs in the 90s, so not many golfers in the afternoon. Dale used to play at 6:30AM.
The only reason you would get me up that early would be a 90% off sale at Macy’s…..maybe.
