I saw a pair of birds in my apple tree today that I’ve never seen before. They stayed too high in the tree for me to be 100% sure, but I think they were Oriels. They had a small reddish patch on their breasts. And they were singing too. I wish they’d have come down closer so I could have gotten a better look at them.
I realize that I take heat for my off-topic posts but something sad happened this morning. I am of a generation that prefers to read books written on paper, not Kindle. I have subscribed to the local newspaper since I graduated high school and left home. I watch as papers cease publication. The Cleveland OH Plain Dealer is stopping leaving Cleveland without any newspaper. The Columbus Dispatch only prints a paper four or five days a week. This morning, my local paper proudly announced that they would print the Sunday paper on Saturday morning for early Saturday delivery.
You had me going, Graham, since cats (& their bigger cousins, including tigers & lions at the Bronx Zoo) are known to contract COVID-19. So far there aren’t any known cases of cat-to-human transmission, but giving strange cats a wide berth is a wise move, as is keeping domestic cats indoors to avoid exposure.
Saw a big fluffy raccoon just after 6:15am during ‘call of nature walkie’ (dog, not me). We kept our distance and turned back for home. A neighbor saw 2 coons yesterday.
Social distancing is always a good idea when it comes to Lily, even if there wasn’t a pandemic. On another note, saw a hawk and some robins while out walking today.
If you all want to hear a good one, my office is locked down for now. This county has 2 COVID patients in the hospital at the moment. When we go back to work, how do we handle safety issues? Should we be wearing masks around our 2 friends we have worked with for years, etc. etc.? GEEZ! WHAT A MESS WE HAVE IN THIS WORLD! Sorry to bring this to one of my favorite strips, but GRAHAM you are dealing with the subject. Thank you!

Ah yes Lily. She Who Must Be Avoided.

Should that be “I’m talking, Lily” instead of “I’m talking Lily”? There is a difference. Like “let’s eat grandma” and let’s eat, grandma"…

I always enjoy Graham’s poems. The cat’s learned social distancing with Lily a long time ago.
