The most important task is brushing your teeth prior to donning the mask.

The ordinary masks are ineffective against CATCHING it, but are effective in preventing someone who already has it from inadvertently giving it to OTHERS. And in the case of a disease that can be present for up to two weeks in someone without symptoms but who IS contagious, that could make a heck of a difference.

Just to confirm, Masks are most effective… if you HAVE the virus and don’t want to spread it. They cover your nose and mouth to prevent you EXHALING it, just like surgeons wear masks to stop themselves infecting the open wound on the table in front of them. Covid 19 is barely airborne over two meters but can exist on things for hours. From infected person to handrail. From handrail to your hand. From your hand to your face. From your face to inside you. From inside you to your saliva and particles of breath. From there to handrail… The mask can only stop the last part there. Wash your hands.

I’m going to keep wearing a mask whether it protects me or not.

funny how many people let the fear of the unknown rule their lives to the point they have no life whatsoever. and how those that don’t are constantly ‘shamed’ by the ones that do. js

Best analogy: Let’s say a couple guys are facing each other, both nude. (Go with it, it’s a good analogy). One guy pees, the other guy gets pee all over him. Now the second guy wears pants. The first guy pees again, and the pants guy now gets some pee, but not as much. OK, last scenario. The first guy wears pants, and pees. This time, almost all the pee stays on the first guy, inside his pants, and almost none at all gets on the second guy. That’s like wearing masks. It helps the wearer a little, but really helps everyone else. The kicker is, you don’t know if you’re carrying it, so figure you are contagious. Wear a mask when near others.
