It’s all in what you count as “mortality”. Planned Parenthood gets upset when their mortality rate is anything less than 100%. US stats count all attempted live births as a mortality, regardless of weight. Other countries, like Canada, have a minimum weight before a failed pregnancy is counted as a “mortality”. Nevertheless, these statistics are often compared to “prove” that the US has high infant mortality. When comparing stats for the same minimum weight, the US is the best in the world. Maybe not if you count intentionally failed pregnancies, however.
Don’t expect rationality from a bunch small minded mean spirited goons. (My Minnesota 2nd. District Congressman included) You should see the form letter he sent me about the reasons he voted for the latest legislative attack on NPR.
According to the CIA World Factbook, the US is 178 of the 224 countries listed for infant mortality.
Stuart, do you seriously think that Planned Parenthood is nothing more than some kind of souped up abortion clinic? Wow. Just wow.
You seriously need to educate yourself.
Planned parenthood is all about planning your parenthood. That means that they provide education, counseling (including infertility counseling for both men and women and HIV/AIDS prevention counseling,) pregnancy tests, prenatal care, STD screening, and, yes, birth control, pregnancy avoidance, and abortion services.
Millions of women nationwide depend on the basic health care provided by Planned Parenthood.
If you actually cared about the health of fetuses and their mothers, you would support Planned Parenthood, instead of condemning it.
Because women who need abortions will get them, even if they aren’t safe.
Without Planned Parenthood many more teenaged girls and women will need them, and many more pregnancies will fail due to lack of basic prenatal care.
