I startled a bunny on my walk this morning, he hopped out of some bushes right in front of me. I don’t know which one of us was the most surprised!
This afternoon a golf ball landed in my flower bed. When the golfer came around I held it up and said “ Missing a ball?” Guy said “I’m terribly sorry” and got the heck out of there. Fluorescent pink ball, costs $54.00 for 6. Mine now!
During the “panic buying” phase, it was extremely difficult for our stockers to keep our shelves stocked. Closing early made it easier, but these people unload the truck first, then all the rest of the day, they’re stocking the shelves. I don’t stock grocery or general merchandise items, but I do some in stationery and a lot in garden center. We’ve been super busy lately – getting plants too fast, but selling them pretty fast as people suddenly realized that Mother’s Day is this weekend.
Today there are more “holidays” than you can shake a stick at!
Today is:
National Lost Sock Memorial Day. I buy my socks in a package of 10 pair or so, all alike, so if any socks go missing, I don’t really miss them. Odds are, the same 2 socks don’t get paired up very often.
National Dog Mom’s Day. I hope there’s a Dog Dad’s Day too (and cat mom & dad’s days too!)
National Moscato Day
Cornelia DeLange Syndrome Awreness Day
National Sleepover Day (another thing not allowed because of this Covid thing)
National Train Day
National Butterscotch Brownie Day. I like Butterscotch Brownies, but I like chocolate ones a whole lot better and now I’m craving brownies so much, it’s all I can do NOT to go bake some RIGHT NOW.
National Birth Mother’s Day
Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive Day
National Archery Day. I tried archery in high school once. We used very basic bows & arrows – not the high powered stuff people use these days for hunting. I was actually pretty good at, scoring higher than most of the other girls in my class. But we only got to do it that one day. I really liked it.
National Miniature Golf Day. Something else we still can’t do, but I love it. But I could observe it at home. I bought one of those putting systems that returns the ball to you when you putt it into the hole (or even if you miss the hole) and I have a putter too. So I can do my own mini golf at home.
We got a little dusting of snow here, I’m supposed to be mowing and gardening two weeks ago. But winter 2.0 has other ideas. Those look like the old Franco American lable, I used to have a couple cans of their Spaghetti ala Milanaise in my collection years ago.
Our shelves were stocked yesterday with plenty of tp and paper products. I SO wanted to buy some but but Brad put the kabosh on it. Yes, I know we don’t need any. Yes, I know we don’t really have room for any. But if I had been alone, some might have found its way into my cart anyway. Not that there was any room for it. It was full of bags of cat and kitten food and dog and puppy food for a local soup kitchen/shelter/community garden/thrift store. I read that people were having to choose between feeding kids and pets and I wanted to help those people out. (yes, I thought of the people, too, and included a WM gift card so I didn’t have to shop. I figured the people at the shelter/food bank could get what they needed)
The fairgrounds opened up today and Brad is down there for some horse event. On one hand, YAY! He’s out of my hair for the day. On the other hand, even with seating restrictions, I don’t think it’s a good idea. We’ve only had a few cases of the virus but still….it only takes ONE to spread it. And, I know that when it gets hot, and it will, Brad will remove his mask.
Speaking of masks, we stopped at the spa place yesterday so we could buy a hand railing for ours. (I really need something to hold onto and the sides are slippery) Anyway, we were wearing masks. The sign at the door said to use the hand sanitizer, which we did. But not a single employee was wearing a mask. And keeping a 6 ft distance? That wasn’t happening with anyone but us. We’d been to the Verizon store before that, and the guys were masked up and had the tape on the floor. We got close enough to put the phones on the counter, then stepped back.
Where are these stores with fully stocked shelves? Or even three-quarter stocked? It’s weird to see working coolers with nothing at all in them, meat coolers less than 33% stocked with signs posted limiting sales to two items. At least paper towels and toilet paper has reappeared, even if it is brands you never heard of. The local Wendy’s only sells Hamburgers several days a week because it can’t get ground beef. McDonalds doesn’t have that problem (insert joke here).

Temps reached 78 today, supposed to be in the 80s for the weekend. It won’t last, but it is nicely timed for Mother’s Day.

Snow in May should be illegal. I certainly appreciate the shelf stockers at our local grocery stores.
