What if the cable is out? Gone are the days of rabbit-ears and chimney antennae. GO OUT AND PLAY! or if it’s raining, grab a board game. Do kids even play board games nowadays?
The blame lies not with the tv but with parents who did know enough to limit usage. Yes, it was a wonder when it first came into homes, but, like many wonders of past decades, it quickly fell to the lure of advertising dollars, followed by the desire to manipulate public opinion by selective editing of truths. Both conditions can still be controlled to some degree if viewers will self-limit. The same pattern applies to the current trend to overuse of pda’s.
I am a child of pre-internet, bad internet, phone internet, and so on. I have emergency video games I can play without internet. Doom, Doom II, Wolfenstein 3D, The Ur-Quan Masters, Heroes of Might and Magic II, Galaga, Super Mario Bros, Metroid, etc… that list goes on for a long, long time.

Yup, each generation is a little more distanced from reality.
