He has a new scheme in the works? What’s he trying to do? Is he trying to scam Fortuna? Well, she does have more money than Tess has, I suppose. Notice how fast he changes the subject when Edison asks where he got the bail money!
“That doesn’t matter now.” Shaky is out on bail and has a new scheme. His failure to tell Edison about Breathless putting up his bail is very telling. This adds to the developments and could well change the course of the story. Whatever Fortuna’s motives turn out to be, we know Shaky is a bad egg. Edison should not trust him. The stage is set for additional conflict. Development, conflict, and story progression is exactly what we have seen over the last few days.
I was going to say it had to make more sense than his last scheme – trying to shake down Dick Tracy’s wife and then escape by riding a girder forty feet into the air. I felt the next scheme had to be better compared to how stupid that was. Then I realized, it could be just as nonsensical.
2-JAY BOGART: A guy in the jail had a smuggled phone and I was on the PenPals hookup site and there you were…
3-…I know you only listed yourself as available on PenPals as a brilliant ploy to contact me and it worked beautifully.
WHATSERNAME: Yes. Of course. Ummm, excuse me a minute while I, umm, go take down my posting and ah, cancel a few Get-To-Know-Your-Criminal dates I made. You know, to see if they could get word to you…?
Strange! The actual CK site itself, no longer shows duplicated comics like Dick Tracy, but newspaper sites showing CK ones do. Saved Daily Favorites seem to be back again on newspaper sites, after being unavailable last week, but still not on the CK site itself. Saved Favorites there, now appear available only to subscribers.
Shaky Mk.2 is quite the optimist! A sharp dresser, sure to draw attention and be remembered wherever he goes (d’oh!). A deep thinker who is sure that his moll Edison will not be suspicious and inquisitive about that bail source (d’oh!). A New Schemer who plans…what? —To fleece Fortuna’s fortune? She may be nefarious, or not, but she is still craftier than Shaky Mk.2 (d’oh!)
This ninny is too big a stumbling loser to deserve Edison even with her poor taste in men!

which is why this clear threat to society should never have been, in reality would never have been, granted bail

After being pretty much publicly neutered in the last story, how are we supposed to take shaky seriously now?

I think Edison is too smart to accept “That doesn’t matter now.” At least, she should be.
