I presume this is a play on “catnip”, but there isn’t any “dognip” (is there?), and there aren’t cats (at least not regularly in the strip), so it’ s a bit out of left field.
I don’t know if the term is used any longer, but a ‘Nip’ can be a small drink of alcohol, but more specifically we use to call those small “airline size” bottles of liquor Nips.
