150 years ago, the French were still a force to be reckoned with. One of the reasons Bismarck was so hot on having a unified German state was that, as of the mid-1800’s, France had tried to conquor Europe three times in the previous 100 years.

Then again, Portugal and the Netherlands were once World Powers…

It is amazing that the French manage to breed at all.

I think breeding is one of their specialties. Please don’t consider that criticism.

It’s a country that didn’t invent the word “chauvanism” pour rien…. that word means exactly what it says on the tin, which is we are French, we are superior, this is God’s country…

AgProv, the French are hardly alone in THAT sentiment, either (well, they’re the only ones who think the French are superior, but…)

Portugal and Spain were once heated rivals; they had to get the Pope to divide the New World in half for them.

^Too bad the pope didn’t say: “It doesn’t belong to either of you. Someone else already lives there. You can’t have it.”
