Andre: Kick it. Petey: You kick it. Andre: You're closer. Petey: Not if I step back. Beni: Yeeah! Andre: Phew. Petey: Somebody kicked it. Let's go inside.
I don’t know how you Americans can call your game ‘football’ when you never acctually kick the ball! You don’t even use a football as it’s shape means it’s intended to be carried rather than kicked!
Well, if by “we” you mean folks in the US, I s’pose cuz we already have a game called “football.” But if you’re including the rest of the world, heck, they already do call it “football.”
Why do people think soccer is boring. My hometown team, Philadelphia Union, has played two games so far this season. They’ve scored two goals. They’ve won twice, 1-0. What could be boring about that? (hehe)
Right. You should watch all the action in baseball instead. Or perhaps golf. Maybe you could catch the 8 seconds of action that occurs between 30 second huddles in US football. And watching 2 teams score a basket every 25 seconds doesn’t get at all old. In truth, all of these sports are interesting if you understand them and know what to look for. Soccer is fascinating if you understand the skill, physical athleticism, and intelligence it takes to play it. It’s continuous action. No timeouts, the coach has to do his job mostly before the game and the players have to be able to actually think during it.
“Comparisons are odious” (proverbial), but that doesn’t keep anybody from making them.
The thing I try to keep in mind is that any sport, when you see it at its higher levels, is being performed by people who have worked really hard to become really good at it. You may think competitive darts is pointless (Hah!), but there’s a tremendous gap between the champion and the casual enthusiast. I’m with uniquename, they’re all fascinating if you understand the fine points and deathly dull if you don’t. None is better or worse, they’re just different.

I love soccer, but I’m just not sure I can imagine a world with Petey as soccer player.

Why don’t we call it football if you use your feet?

At least Andre seems to be on the right track, a loud interjection helps you kick the ball.

2 games and only 2 goals to show for it, WaitingMan? If that’s not boring I don’t know what is. It’s right up there with watching paint dry!.

I think that was his point, Grog.

“What’s this thing?”
“A soccer ball. Playing soccer’s supposed to be good for you.”
“Have you kicked it?”
“I’m not gonna kick it, YOU kick it.”
“I’M not gonna kick it.”
“Hey! Let’s get Beni!”
“Yeah! He won’t need it, he hates everything!”
“He kicked it! Hey Beni!”
