never been on a relatives’ farm myself, so I think I can unrelate to the statement the man made

Hermione is not pleased with the hired help’s statement if you catch her eye in the last panel.

“Yep, when you get kids away from their own kind, they can be downright civilized.”

This sounds awful! Why would the farm hand want to get kids away from their own kind? Why is this his comparison to pigs? This doesn’t sound like wise farmer talk. This sounds like, “Keep your kids away from this creepy guy” talk.

Last frame looks like he mouth is wrapped with duct tape

“Kids are like pigs. Just force them into funny costumes and take them away from their homes. Oops, did I say that out loud?”

I get the impression that ‘Hermione’ isn’t impressed with the hired man AT ALL ! ! ! !

Not for nothing did medieval people send their adolescent kids to live with other families. The kids learnt trades but also presumably behaved better with strangers than with their parents – some things don’t change.

“Into the half-ton”… Canadian for a light-duty pickup truck? Canadian commenters? :-)

You cannot ride in the back of a pickup in my neck of the woods. You’ll get stopped faster than you can say, “ticket”.

Kids are also like pigs in the respect that they’re constantly filthy and smearing goo everywhere. At least a pig provides you with bacon. Kids provide you with debt and messes to clean up.

Are Canadian kids still learning cursive?
