Any biscuits or other treats left within reach of the dog’s jaws are, de facto, dog treats. We installed a pet gate in the doorway to the kitchen when our German Shepherd dog, Conan, decided that the pot of soup cooling on the counter was “within reach” … but we had to cut him some slack since he had only been rescued a few days before. That was his only act of people food-theft.

Our dog is too small for this type of thievery, but with her previous owner she got on her lap while she slept in her chair and snagged food off the side table.
