In days of yore, when warships had sails, there was a rack called a brass monkey where cannon balls were stacked on the deck. When it got cold the brass would shrink & the balls would fall off. Thus; “Cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey.”
“Well—How do you like them apples”. During WWI American soldiers had a bomb that looked from a distance to be an apple. They would launch the bombs, then say to their enemies. “How do you like them apples?”
Today, Sun June 7, join in The Big Thank You Search of 2020! I’m Columbus, OH cartoonist Tony Cochran, & my Agnes & other comics have 6 symbols of gratitude for people who help us all through pandemic. Find them in Agnes today!
I have followed this comic for quite a while but never wrote a comment until now. As an essential worker, in the ER (I actually read this in between patients) and in teaching, I would like to thank you and all of the cartoonists who took part in the National Cartoonists Society challenge to use the symbols in their comics today (well, yesterday, since I’m writing this on Monday).

It’s a tribute strip to the essential workers during the pandemic! A lot of the strips today after paying tribute.

What’s up with Agnes’s face in the second panel? Is she wearing a mask?

I discovered that if I click on the cartoon, it gets its own window, and is big enough that I can read the words!
