I can still remember being a child at the grocery store with Mom and having to navigate the very tempting and dangerous candy shelves placeD strategically by the check-out lanes. The lure was more than I could stand but Mom stood resolute. I swore to myself that I’d never forget the feeling and when I had kids I was an easy mark for “can we get one of these?”
Both The Cocoanuts and Animal Crackers include a bit that dates back to the Marx Brothers’ vaudeville skit “Home Again”: while a policemen pumps Harpo’s right hand, commending him for his honesty, stolen silverware falls out of his left sleeve.
I vaguely recall when I was quite young, I may have dropped something like candy in to the cart and my mother was not happy with me. Never did anything like that again.

Awww! I found being so rigid with kids brings in more grief. Not that they’re allowed to do what they want but what are grandmas for?
