It seems to me that commercials are not as bad as they use to be.

The only problem is that they came up with this 50-60 years ago already.

When I took a recording engineering course they told us that the volume isn’t any louder they just changed the way the signal was processed so that more high frequencies were left in which makes it seem louder. Of course that was back when dinosaurs roamed the earth

We always turn the sound off when the commercials come on. Joe Namath is the most annoying commercial reader.

Actually, the FCC started regulating that phenomenon about 10 or 15 years ago.

The only thing worse is the volume for conversation is low and when they have “background” music, the volume increases at least 10×.

The only thing more annoying is the music they play while giving credits leading into a movie.

The commercials are not turned up, the tv show are turned down. Same effect.

One word ‘DVR’. (While that is technically an abbreviation of 3 words, my point stands) :) :) :)

I have almost forgotten what a TV commercial is.

Well, the storyline is stuck in a time warp,… but at least Bleeb is in one of his usual “peculiar” locations.

Cut the cable years ago and haven’t seen a commercial since. Streaming with a fire stick is the way to go!

That was made illegal in the UK, so they turned down the volume on the programmes instead.

Here’s how it works: The FCC regulations say that the average volume of a commercial has to match the rest of the broadcast (the show the commercial is a part of). The key here is “average.” By reducing the volume at frequencies the commercial does not need and turning up the volume in other frequencies, the commercial still meets the average volume while it is very loud to a person listening to it. E.g. they might get rid of all low frequency sound and turn up the voice volume (it’s actually much more sophisticated than that, but you get the idea). Over the years, the FCC has tried to find ways to stop that, and the advertisers are just as busy finding ways to bypass the new rules.
