Old age jokes about memory loss are not funny.

OK, so The Professor (Professor Peters! I hadn’t noticed before that he had a name) does have kids (I had suggested he didn’t in a comment a few months back). I think that this does explain why he is at Elderpark: he has become too forgetful to live by himself or take care of himself, and for some reason the kids can’t look after him. Too bad, since I believe it was established somewhere that The Professor is only in his late 60’s (same age as I am now!), and to me that seems way too young to be in assisted living. After all, Dusty is 80, and despite his odd ideas (which are likely nothing new for him) he is still sharp as a tack.

I’m puzzled to see the Professor give his last name as “Peters” here. In future comics, he is called "Professor Basset (sp?) " Unless he actually forgot his correct last name here, I don’t know why he is named “Basset” (sp?) later on.
