Sorry all if I do a puzzle I want one has no thinking just siting so for me a search a word is relaxing. My siste does Sodokhu. Me I don’t understand them.
Sudoko is a test of patience first and logic second. Math doesn’t enter into the picture. Kakuro and Ken Ken combine simple math with logic and a degree of spatial mapping. They’re much more varied than Sudoku and don’t tend to be as tedious. Any of them, though, should be beneficial for keeping the brain active, particularly for an old person. Definitely better than watching TV or reading, say, People magazine.
To quote a poster one of my college housemates had, “The time I enjoy wasting is not wasted time.” Any puzzle (crossword, jigsaw, sodoku, cryptogram, etc.) that exercises your mind is good for you. Jumping to conclusions and being overly judgmental - maybe not so beneficial.

I wouldn’t waste my working life on it and certainly not my retired life when I finally get there……if I get there!

Wasting time is doing what others can’t; because they are still working

You got that right, Grandpa! At least a word puzzle can be interesting or funny or educational. A number puzzle is the ultimate in pointless boredom.
