One modern problem I have noticed… People want to dismantle the Police Force in most cities. Or restrict what they can and can not do. This solution to all the other problems is quite backwards to me. It makes me think of Early Firefighters. “The first ever Roman fire brigade was created by Marcus Licinius Crassus. He took advantage of the fact that Rome had no fire department, by creating his own brigade—500 men strong—which rushed to burning buildings at the first cry of alarm. Upon arriving at the scene, however, the fire fighters did nothing while Crassus offered to buy the burning building from the distressed property owner, at a miserable price. If the owner agreed to sell the property, his men would put out the fire, if the owner refused, then they would simply let the structure burn to the ground.” – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_firefighting#Rome Do we really want to work-backwards and negotiate the price of lives and property while the police stand around and let everything get thrashed??? We need to think of better solutions.
My theory is that if you go far enough back in history to investigate, you will find that 90% of our current problems are caused by failed government policies. The policies may have been well-intentioned, but were doomed by unintended consequences and/or poor foresight.

You should understand that Kipling’s observations apply to the police force as well:

But…if we had no problems, we would have nothing about which to complain!

That’s open to question.
