Anti-social is hard for some, natural for others.

I asked my neighbor out walking her dog why she was wearing a mask when nobody is nearby. She has to wear one all day as a supermarket clerk. Her answer was because that way she can take her teeth out when she gets home!

We twice tried to take a walk just to take a walk. No one understands distancing. No one wears a mask unless they wear it below their nose or around their neck.

Family next door has huge parties on the weekends – cars will even block other people’s driveways. No one wears a mask. Today for Father’s Day they had a huge party in their small backyard (all backyards are small here, but they added deck, big trampoline, swing set, etc.). No one distancing and no one wearing masks.

We live in the township with the most cases of C-19 in our county. Our county has the 3rd most cases in the state of any county. I live in NYS – we have the most cases in the country. Our county has more (when last I checked and cases elsewhere are rising) more cases than 48 states and a number of countries – including some not so small ones. Are they crazy or do they feel that it won’t hurt them?!!

The public mood has probably changed a lot more than private feelings about the new virus. The point of the month of lockdown was to prevent the sharp rise from overwhelming medical facilities, and in most places it worked. It was not expected to prevent any of us from getting it, ever, but to slow the pace. It is gradually becoming accepted (especially on the medical frontlines) that we are probably all going to get it at some point, hopefully after medicine has had time to make some progress with prevention or treatment.

And some people are just oblivious.

In Heaven you don’t have to distance yourself, Janis. Do you plan on going there? What’s your rush?

Janis should consider herself lucky that her neighbor decided to put on a t-shirt.

Lately Janis is the antisocial one. Not sure why Jimmy has her personality do a 180. She is no longer the Janis we knew and loved.

If the CDC had made up their mind early on and mandated masks for every one every where, we probably wouldn’t be where we are today. But no, we can’t/won’t be told what to do. Why are we so stubborn when it might mean our very life?

Panel 3 is the “I acknowledge that you are there but stay away from me I hate you” wave.

There are a lot of mistaken ideas about COVID-19. And these mistaken ideas are contributing to the denial of the severity of the COVID-19 pandemic. While COVID-19 and the flu present similar symptoms they are not the in the same family of viruses. Hospitalization for the flu is about 2% of those infected. Thus far the hospitalization rate for COVID-19 has been 20%, this could end up being less but we don’t know the true number of infections. The mortality rate for the flu is less than .2%. Thus far the mortality rate for COVID-19 is about 5%, again this could end up being less but we don’t know the true number of infections. The reproductive rate (i.e. the number of people an infected person will infect) for the flu varies between .9 and 2.1 (A rate of <1 means that the disease is declining while a rate of >1 means the disease is spreading). The reproductive rate of COVID-19 is about 5.7. The normal means of transmission for the flu is through respiratory droplets. The normal transmission of COVID-19 is also through respiratory droplets, although there is growing evidence that it is also transmitted through aerosol transmission. Respiratory droplets usually drop out of the air within 6 feet and within a short period of time. Aerosol transmission involves smaller droplets that can remain suspended in the air for a longer period of time and can spread more widely. Antibiotics can not treat viruses. There are approved antiviral treatments to lessen the severity of flu symptoms. There are no approved antiviral treatments for COVID-19. Everything that doctors are trying are experimental and the efficacy of these treatments have not been established. It’s a crap shoot so far. You can get a vaccine for the flu although it’s not guaranteed 100% effective. There is no vaccine for COVID-19 (hopefully there will be one sooner than later).

Please protect others. Observe social distancing and wear a mask as necessary.

“The areas with the highest infections are also the areas with the most stringent restrictions.”

True, but the stringent restrictions did not cause the high number of infections.

Back in March Trump said that like the flu, COVID-19 will all but disappear with the warm weather. Another difference between the flu and COVID-19. Warm states, California, Arizona, Texas, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, have all seen significant increases in cases. These increases are more than what would be expected by the increase in testing.

or you can look at it like this: In my hemisphere it is spring/ summer. I don’t want to get sick but if this were to be my last summer on earth, would I want to spend it hiding in my house out of fear? No, I want to live my life. Yes, I’ll wear my mask in indoor public spaces. Yes, I’ll avoid crowds but I will go out and live.

And if I don’t feel like talking I’ll use the old standby, talk to my dog or listen to a podcast and pretend I didn’t see anyone waving.

One of the joys in my life has been seeing the smiles of happy children and adults. I miss the smiles. A lot! If the “new normal” is for people to wear masks when in public forevermore, then I hope God takes me soon!

A lot of people claim that there is no “God” and we are here by evolution and natural selection. And these are the same people trying to play god and stop evolution and natural selection.
