That is a large component of my genetics, too. In white shorts I might as well be a widely striped candy cane from being in the sun: white shorts, red legs. (Despite pretty much living outdoors in summers, the only summer I ever had more than a tiny tan and freckles was the one when I took marine biology at age 14 after doing well in biology. Of course, in pastels that tan looked deeper and my hair had gotten very sun bleached which also added to that effect.)
There are no rules about what colors you have to wear and when, and so-called “white” skin is not white. Nearly all people have the same coloring mechanism and are different shades of brown from light to dark.
I limit my “wear white” to tee shirts. And at that, always with some kind of decoration so there’s at least a fighting chance that the (food) stains won’t be entirely obvious. Oh. And socks. Both (lack of) limits apply year ’round.

My shorts are just old blue jeans I’ve cut the legs off.

I am a pasty fair skinned Irish/Scot living at high altitude. I have dead fish-white legs, and I am proud of them!

I used to play a lot of tennis. Was so happy when the “Whites Only” dress code was dropped.

In the 60’s I was supposed to deploy to Cyprus for the UN, kit included khaki shorts.

I am always dumbfounded by the huge number of folks wearing black (and often tight fitting) on a hot summer day.

IMO there are enough meaningful rules in society without worrying about arbitrary dress codes. What ever is the point of restricting wearing white?

Don’t wear white Lycra cycling shorts. They don’t leave much to the imagination!

What’s wrong with pale skin? We come in all colors.
