Dethany Dendrobia (from the On the Fast Track strip) last appeared here on July 31 to August 1, 2016, consulting on the background of Rikki Mortis. This time she seems to be the target of our new bad guy(s).
The stuff I was hoping to post yesterday is still not ready. I had too many distractions yesterday.
With the Second Shaky’s second case all wrapped up, and with today’s strip showing the return of an old friend who probably has nothing to do with Shaky, it appears we’ve reached the start of a new story. When I’ve decided a new story’s started, I do a list of every Tracy story on GoComics. Unfortunately, soon after I started doing this GC imposed a stupid, asinine character limit of only 2000 characters which includes every letter, space, punctuation, & html, which means I have to do this over several posts. I’ll do my initial introduction in this post and start the list in the next one, because otherwise, I can’t even get past the second year.
My notes are fairly simple. Just my name for the story (usually the name of the main villain or villains, unless they just aren’t the emphasis) followed by the dates the story began and ended. If someone was the main villain for more than one story, I add a “II” and so on to emphasize this. If more than one villain from a past story are in the same story committing major crimes, I include them altogether. Finally, for the 3 cases of more than one villain with the same name (Chameleon, Mr. Crime, Shaky) I add, “The Second” in front of their names.
Minit Mysteries Note: at the request of people who wanted to see these listed here, I’ve decided to make a separate post for them to keep the listing of Mike Curtis stories in as few posts as possible.
At the start of the GoComics archive, the writer was the late Mike Kilian. Personally, I like his work on Tracy and think he’s very underrated. At the very least, he knew how to tell a story in the daily strip format where every day, something happens that moves the story along, a quality his successor sorely lacked. I recommend anyone here who hasn’t read these stories to check them out.
I hope Dethany sticks around for a bit. The way she’s visually interpreted by Joe and Shelley always reminds me of Bruce Timm-era Batman. Plus she’s fun!
Ah, Dethany Dendrobia, my favorite Goth detective!
Over on that social networking site, Dethany [a.k.a. cartoonist Bill Holbrook] today announced the duel crossover events, with the Dick Tracy side beginning today and the On the Fastrack side beginning 16 July with a separate storyline. See https://tinyurl.com/y7h98qtw
Don’t know what became of the expected visit from Brenda Starr; maybe that will still occur later in the summer.
Meanwhile, I look forward to the Noir Detective and Tracy crossing paths again!
Guess im in the minority here since i have no idea who the hell this goofy looking cartoon character is… im guessing for the next couple weeks tracy is gonna be cartoony artwise
I’m happy with a On the Fast Track crossover. I started reading Fast Track because of Dick Tracy and glad to see her come back. Oddly enough, she doesn’t do any detective work on her strip at all though.
Cruller. The name is Cruller. Hurricane Cruller. Yeah, it’s a funny name for a cop but, growing up in The Big Easy with parents that were groumands and lived on Bourbon Street and named their second and spare kid after their two favourite things wasn’t easy. I didn’t go to the School of Hard Knocks. I went to the School of Hard Knuckles and did my own laundry while my mom was spending nights waiting tables and snapping her gum.
Twenty plus years of pounding the streets putting up with tourists asking for change for a French Quarter and I wind up here in Tracyville doing night desk duty. The ultimate irony is now I spend my nights sitting on a rubber doughnut instead of eating real ones with my bottomless cup of Sanka. Nights full of crazy cat ladies swearing that they lost a cat because they can only count forty-one and calls from people complaining that they got the wrong toppings on their pizza. Nothing like back home where nights were full of zombies, evil spirits, bad juju, and the air hung thick, sweet, and heavy with mystery and danger and rang with the faint echoes of shackles being dragged over cobblestones.
Suddenly the door burst open. At first glance, the broad was so white and pale that I thought that she was a lost English tourist. But then it happens: she whispers the magic words and I’m suddenly whisked back home.
“I need to see Dick Tracy!”
Suddenly I get that familiar feeling of tingling ear hairs and know that this will be at least a five Sanka night, and no sugar or cream, dangit. It needs to be as black as my heart and soul.
This storyline(if it can be called that), UGH!!! These new writers are just destroying the old comics. I think that Jay Maeder did a good job of modernizing Annie, but few papers published it.

Look to see Goth Dethany traverse the streets at night
Wise watchful walker well aware. Stays cool. Shows no fright.
Shots ring out! One, two and three. There’s danger on the street
Dendrobia determined. Has been known to draw some heat.
Who could it be, brave Dethany? Who’d wish to do you harm?
Is Rikki free of lock and key? Time to sound the alarm.
This gal is smart and on the move. She knows just what to do
On a Fast Track to Tracy’s shop to see the MCU.

Do you think the writers have any plans for Broadway Bates who they showed a few weeks ago or they just used him for Sunday filler?

Will they “Otis” her a cell for the night because if she goes back out alone .. the shooter may just be biding their time.

Another Take over 4 years ago
1-Our heroine, Deth Warmedover, walks the alleys of Tracyville in search of the kind of stuff you find in alleys on a dark, moonless night. Suddenly…
2-A lightning bug zips by!
3-As the drugs kick in, Deth realizes that she can no longer tell hallucination from reality. Suddenly (again)…
4-A warm beacon of light suggests sanctuary…
5-DETH WARMEDOVER: Gimme a Big Mac but hold the special sauce and lettuce and pickle. Oh, and one of those things you call milk shakes.
