I think there are monsters under my bed
well that's ridiculous
Monsters are too big. scorpions, on the other hand - now there a creature that can hide comfortably under a bed!
Reminds me of my dear old dad. Once when I couldn’t sleep because I was frightened by something I had seen that day on “Dark Shadows,” he sat by my bed, and read to me from a book of . . . ghost stories.
As a teen sleeping in my basement bedroom I felt something tickling my chest. 3/4 asleep I brushed it with the back of my fingers. I was immediately awake and turning on the light switch by my door as someone put a match head out in my sternum. The scorpions in Missouri are not deadly but their poison is a stunning way to wake up.

There’s nothing like a little encouragement. And that was nothing like a little encouragement.

Scorpions. Black Widow spiders. Cobras. Flatcats.

That should keep him in bed the rest of the night.

Not to worry, they’re usually in your shoes if the spiders haven’t already got there.

Scorpions! Do a quick shake-out-your-shoe-before-putting-it-on, just to be sure. A well-known Texas maneuver.

Teach ‘em rational thought and they’ll never fear again?
