Surprisingly, this is actually decent advice. The best way to get out of an argument is to never start one.

Of course, with this being an imperfect world, sometimes you can’t avoid it forever, but that doesn’t mean you need to go looking for trouble either.

In short, stop horsing around the internet!

Yeah but sometimes ya just get suckered in and end up writing a comment that pushes someone’s buttons and then yours get pushed and then…….

If you try to fix it or apologize it gets worse. Heh heh.

Alas, I forgot this lesson in a few hours.

The way is to get the last word in.

Most especially political ones. I swear, folks just trying to bait you. Although in real life, I weigh how worthwhile it is. And sometimes you can be and just achieve a Pyrric victory. Basically, it a (Wargames movie) WOPR thing.

This assumes victory consists of convincing the other.

It MAY involve letting others know there is a different viewpoint or that the claim was based on false information or interpretation, thereof.

On a long gone horse forum, there was a thread called ‘People Needing Help.’ We tended to refer to it as, ‘People Needing Arguments.’ :D

There was an F-Minus cartoon that has the girlfriend standing next to her boyfriend who is on the internet. She says something like, “My phone is lighting up. Did you just post a comment that solved the world’s problems?”

Doesn’t quite work out the same way on the editorial pages
