Reminds me when a dog barking very viciously accidently knocks the door open and then is confused as to what to do.

I have seen calm dogs become more aggressive when tethered. They no longer have the option of escape so they resort to attempting to scare off oncoming trouble.

Wouldn’t a spike collar work better.

I’ve seen that syndrome in more than a few bars.
