As a kid, when we took a family vacation, I do believe we spent 30% of the time hunting for or using restrooms. As an adult, I just pull over into a levelish spot and walk into the bathroom that we brought with us.
My wife, now working from home, says that the 2nd greatest benefit (after the 5-second commute from the kitchen to her computer) is that the bathroom is only 10 steps away from her desk instead of past a bunch of co-workers, thru 3 doors, and down a hallway.
We haven’t taken a car trip longer than 2 hours in the past 4 months. We only go as far as we can “hold it,” rather than risk potential COVID-19 exposure in some unknown restroom. Sad times…

With a wife and two daughters home we always planned any car trips around towns and rest stops.
