Councilman Hilburn; Listen, Adam, recycling programs are a good idea that don't have any place in the real world. Adam; Why not? Councilman Hilburn; Well, the amount of resources we'd have to dedicate to a recycling program would eliminate my potential resource savings. Councilman Hilburn; Your recycling program would actually do more harm than good. Adam; Hey, that reminds me. Councilman Hilburn; Of what? Adam; Of this guy I just met...

Omaha sends out 3 different trucks weekly. One for garbage, one for recycling and one for yard debris. (No yard debris in the winter). Recycled and made into mulch and compost which are sold to people need such items………. Shoot, Mountain Grove, MO has a recycler.! Cabool, MO sends a truck once per week to pick up recyclables.

L A is not a small town, but we still have 3 trucks every week, plus a place where we can take electronic and hazardous waste on the weekend. The green waste is ground up and put out for anyone to use for free. My wife goes over and bags up 6 or 8 bags full every few months to mulch her her veggie garden.

Yeah, here in Ypsilanti, MI (outside of Ann Arbor) we, too, have three trucks every week, garbage, recyclables, yard waste. Plus we have disposal centers where we can drop-off paint, computers, etc. Works great.

Like some of you, my small town sends trucks out too. We get garbage collection on Monday and recycle collection on Tuesday. We have a two week period for yard and other debris toward the end of summer. Seems like it’s a wide-spread concept that works. Probably 20% of the mail I receive is printed on partly recycled product.
So there’s your agument Adam. And tell Hilbutt to take a walk.

This is a big problem with the US. Corporations own politicians, not the voice of the people.

We have a recycling center that we bring our stuff to. We bought our own bins and load up our truck and go.

In Toronto, we have 1 truck a week. Week 1 is Garbage + Food scraps Week 2 is Recycle + Food scraps
We’re eliminating (west of Yonge Street) the unionized jobs, and contracting out the garbage/recycle collection by June 2012, and it is going to save a few million dollars.
Done properly, Recycling CAN be profitable and save a LOT of space in the landfill!

Washington, D.C. has the largest recycling center in the nation! People all over the country keep sending their garbage back to D.C. every two, four and six years.

Penn & Teller take on Recycling Programs. Some language not safe for work (the title of the program is “Bull$#it” for example). The above link is for the first of three segments.

We have a great system. Three separate containers for every residence picked up separately. Driven to one massive landfill. All the trucks then dump their contents together in one spot.
But people sure feel good about what they are accomplishing and that is what really matters- feeling good about yourself.

Some people are simply too lazy to recycle. Of course it is beneficial. The lazy ones don’t believe in it.

Darky, some are BS, I agree. However, I’ve never seen the facts that they bring up in this one refuted. Their second-hand smoke episode is right on as well.
