I’d forgotten all about the horrible yet vague weapon Rip had originally been sent to the everglades to find a piece of until I went back a few months in the time line.
Kudos to Dan T for the Jack Reacher and Good Dirk Pitt references! May I suggest, if not already done, a perusal of the “Flashman” novels by George MacDonald Fraser?
Harry Flashman, both a bully and a coward, was expelled from Rugby School (yes, the place where the game was invented) in the novel “Tom Brown’s School Days.” Later on, George MacDonald Fraser discovered memoirs Flashman had made of his later life, edited them, and then published them.
While Flashman, because of his cowardice, does his very best to avoid any sort of danger, he seems to continually end up being the unsung hero of many developments in the British empire. A very fun view of British history during the latter half of the 19th century.
I guess the dailies and Sundays have always been independent of each other, but it is disorienting to have Lorna be the villain on Sunday and Rip’s handler on Monday.
The last time we saw her, she was getting ready to marry Dr Picnic. Why would the agency bring her back after the mess she made of the mission currently being seen in the Sunday strips? The agency is that strapped for funds that they can’t hire anyone new?
Lorna Lake? The agent who knocked RIP out to escape with a SKULL agent with which she fell in love? That’s who Dutch puts in charge of RIP? Not only was Dutch’s tenure at the Alliance disastrous, his judgement was suspect. Now I’m sure…he shouldn’t be in any position where clear thinking is needed.
Dutch must be major-league desperate if he’s willing to put this crazy woman back on the payroll. Why, just last Sunday she was howling at the moon. And she wasn’t that good at it – the doctor noticed straight away.

Book him, Dutch. Just don’t use anything by Matthew Reilly.

Lorna’s back. Hopefully, this time she won’t fall for a Skull agent and go crazy.

With Lorna Lake on the case, it will probably be more like Twilight.
