Hey! I resemble that remark!.I am fortunate enough to live in a neighborhood that thinks having a bagpiper down the block is a really neat thing. Couple years ago, I was out on the porch practicing for the St. Patrick’s Day Death March (four parades in two days, plus a pub crawl), and the president of the neighborhood association came up the sidewalk. I’m in trouble now, though I… but then he pulled two beers from his coat pockets and invited me to his St. Paddy’s Day party…
I love to hear bagpipes too. In the right setting!Hour after hour in you home from a brother-in-law would be the worst thing; I would throw him and the pipes out.
We have a neighbor about 4 blocks away and on Saturday mornings he practices in his front yard. It took some time to drive around the neighborhood to find him. We tooted as we passed by. I guess because he is not close and does not practice outside much, we truly enjoy his playing. Akin to listening to the birds and reflecting on a horn well played.
I’d like pipes if they were quieter. During college, one of my roommates was a piper. Thankfully, he did all his practice, outside. One night he was outside on the opposite side of a brand new dorm building, with closed windows, and I could still hear him playing “Scotland Forever.” Fortunately, I enjoy that song, and I was studying late, and I needed help to avoid nodding off.
Bagpipes played well are a real pleasure to listen to. If not played well . . . well, then, not quite so much! But my absolute favorite instrument I could listen to all day long is the harp. I imagine it must be what Heaven sounds like because the melodic music it makes certainly sounds heavenly to my ears!!! Yes, I believe I could definitely live in the same house with a professional harp player! :-)

Me too, as long as they are well-played. There are too many that abuse those poor pipes.

I love them. “Scotland the Brave” is my favorite.

I love the trumpet and the pipes. Not together, though!

I play the trumpet. My brother used to play the pipes. They haven’t released my parents from their padded cells yet.

The sound of the pipes makes me sad, as I mostly hear at police and military funerals. Usually for much younger people;-(

My late husband wanted to learn to play the pipes. Can you imagine living with someone LEARNING to play ?

Wow, a whole page of comments and not one snide, snotty remark about Elly. Surely you can think of something…

Our “second” priest (Episcopal) frequently wears a kilt and also plays bagpipes. We think he’s cool!
