You paid extra for a car radio and all it had was AM that didn’t work when you went on the bridge.

You had someone on the roof turning the antenna while somebody else was in front of the TV yelling, “That’s good! Stop right there!”.

That’s no exaggeration. In fact, the models preceding them were more like the size of Army radio sets — so large you just left them in your car.

Sounds like my usual Rants…..or maybe Dan’s just blithering!

The original mobiles were installed in the vehicle and honked the horn when a call came in. Yo, Bob! Answer your truck.

And the phone was attached to the wall and to get privacy, you had to stretch the cord really long to get around a corner.

Old timers my age don’t use such bad grammar. That came much later when schools started failing.

You are preaching to the wrong crowd, Gramps! The kids don’t care about ‘when you were a kid’, they have more important things to do.

From the examples he gives, I conclude that he’s much younger than I am.

We did have pay as you go phones. You could find them at most gas stations, convenient stores, movie theaters, airports, etc.

Yeah, except naps. Never napped after age 3.

What we did have was geezers telling us about the days when you had to drive into town in a horse cart, if you wanted a cup of electricity. Milk came in incoveniently-sized cows. School was a hike-and-half away and you spent your summers in the farm fields. You got strong arms from pumping water and strong legs from carrying it. If the crops failed, you collected…dust. When people talk about “going off the grid”, I have to laugh. My people spent GENERATIONS getting ON the grid.
