I worked with a resigned Catholic priest from Ireland originally sent here in the ‘50s I think. His language could make a sailor blush.

As a consultant, I learned to never do something you didn’t want to see in the newspaper the next day.

Nothing to do with today’s strip, but back on the 1st I referred to a word which I thought Heinlein coined in one of his books meaning “believe whatever makes you happy” but I couldn’t remember the word, much less the book, and several people wanted to know.

I woke up during last night thinking of it – “foma”. Googling that turned up that it was not Heinlein. Apologies.

I posted this here because it seemed unlikely that anyone who asked is going to be looking back at comments from the 1st.

And now back to today’s comic strip, already in progress: Give him a break, Honey. As long as Duke doesn’t molest the orphans, he’ll be a step up from the priests the kids are used to. (No apologies, Catholics. The priests have brought this on themselves!)

Quite simply stated, Duke is a total ass!

“Honey” has always been Duke’s external conscience. He pawned his own some time ago and never looked back.

Careful about talking dirty in front of Honey, Duke. She might secretly like it.

Could be worse. He could just lock them up in cages like our government did.

And you people gave him ideas

Of course he can say it. Priests can do no wrong. Especially when it comes to helpless, innocent children. We have it on the unimpeachable authority of their bishops.

…and apparently they can drink and smoke as well!
