    We should take a lesson from a dung beetle. They don’t eat everything; likewise we shouldn’t accept everything these idolized people did to become enshrined. We should be equally fussy like the dung beetle picking out the their gross atrocity and concentrating on the positive benefits that grew once society defeated their cause.

    Add plaques to them explaining what they really stood for, then see how eager the locals are to keep them. They really belong in museums where the context can be properly applied.

    They barely teach History and some southern states write their own text books slanted in THEIR belief….BOO HISS…America is being DUMBED DOWN

    The stupidest part of the statue issue is that cities are writing laws which say that any public statue that makes people uncomfortable enough to protest can be taken down. The laws are so vague that they can be used to take down any statue, including the icons of the Civil Rights Movement. Oooops!

    Historically, statues of any political influence seem to be most useful as a) pigeon roosts and b) symbols to be attacked when the inevitable evolution or revolution occurs.

    All of the things mentioned are easy to change. Statues are, for the most part, permanent.
