Fun fact! Ancient Greek and Roman noticed that in the middle of July, Sirius, the dog star, the brightest star in the sky, would rise in the sky just before the sun did, and since these were also the hottest days of the year, they thought the dog star had something to do with it, hence the phrase, ‘The dog days of summer’.
These days we know Sirius, despite being one of the closest stars to us (which is why it appears so bright), is still too far away to have any effect on out planet’s climate.
I remember the dog days of summer. Phones had dials not screens. Computers were the size of delivery trucks and only governments or universities had them. TV had three channels and little that was of interest to a kid. There was no air conditioning but, even in the deep south, we never complained about the heat. We were just a pack of neighborhood kids with a pack of neighborhood dogs who played barefoot and outdoors from breakfast to well after sunset with nothing but our friends and our imaginations to inspire us. Good times.

nice, if I tried to take a nap outdoors I’d end up with a slobbery toy on my tummy and a dog staring at me, waiting for me to notice.
