I think it is a really great arc as no one ages in this strip. It plays with that fact in a quite ironic yet suptle way. I am not sure if it is intended, but it gives the arc a certain charm.
If you think time flies when you are a kid, wait until you are 50 and older. I keep thinking I can’t wait until I can retire, then I think, I really don’t want to be that old. ;-/
