no excuse like that in my house growing up, the hotter it got the less you wore when you played outside temps nearing 100f meant a swim suit or a pair of boxers and nothing else.
While I was growing up in Ohio, my Grand-Aunt had a little stool for me to sit on to watch TV as not to dirty her sofa while wearing my play clothes. When company came over, someone was always wanting to sit on my stool. She would make them get up.
